Essential Packing for UK Summer Breaks

What to pack for a UK holiday when the weather is unpredictable

School holidays are upon us, (survival mode activated!) and many of you might be planning a few days away in the UK. Packing for unpredictable weather doesn’t have to be stressful, with these tips, you’ll be prepared for whatever the British weather throws at you, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable holiday.

1. Layer Up

Versatile Layers: Pack lightweight layers that can be added or removed easily. Think vest tops, t-shirts, long-sleeve tops, and cardigans.

Jumpers and Hoodies: A cosy jumper or hoodie is perfect for cooler evenings and those times when you want to sit with a drink after the children are in bed!

2. Weatherproof Outerwear

Waterproof Jacket: A must-have for those unexpected downpours. Opt for something breathable and packable! There is nothing worse than a heavy raincoat in the humid weather, it may be wet but you want it to be light and airy!

3. Footwear

Comfortable Trainers: Ideal for walking and exploring, can be sparkly if you want to add the interesting detail to your outfit!

Waterproof Boots: Perfect for rainy days or muddy costal paths.

Flip Flops/Sandals: For those hopeful sunny spells or just relaxing at your accommodation. Pack a neutral that will work across the whole wardrobe and dress up an evening look for dinner out!

4. Accessories

Hat and Sunglasses: Protect yourself from the sun when it decides to make an appearance.

Pashmina/Scarf: Even summer evenings can be chilly, so it’s good to have one handy to wrap around you.

Jewellery: Doesn’t have to be your finest bling but a simple set will elevate your look for those evening meals out and instagram selifes for memories!

5. Clothing Essentials

Jeans and Trousers: Easy to pair with various tops and suitable for all weathers.

Shorts/Skirts: For the warmer days. Choose a Midi skirt that can be worn both during the day and into evening. A lighter material will also dry really quickly if you get caught in those summer showers!

Dresses: Choose versatile options that can be dressed up or down. Add a denim jacket to make it casual and a sandal to dress it up.

6. All-Weather Essentials

Umbrella: Compact and sturdy for those inevitable showers. Choose a bright colour to add some fun and bring you more joy!

Swimwear: You never know when you’ll have the chance for a dip, be it in a hotel pool or a sunny beach. My advice after two children is to make it supportive as well as stylish. Choose your best pattern or print to bring some glamour. My choice is always botanical and by choosing one of your best colours you will be sure to feel great as you whizz down those waterslides!

SPF Suncream: Yes, even in the UK, you can get sunburnt! SPF is a must, I wear mine on my face and hands every day of the year!

7. Practical Extras

Reusable Water Bottle: Stay hydrated on the go.

Portable Charger: Keep your devices powered up for capturing all those holiday moments and those IPad essential moments to avoid meltdowns! (Best purchase I’ve made!)

First Aid Kit: A small kit for any minor mishaps, paw patrol plasters are optional!

Mini Fan: For those times where you are having a hot flush and need instant air! If it can be clipped on to a pushchair if you have younger children its a game changer!
