Jan Beveridge image consultant and personal stylist for Plymouth and West Devon

We at House of Colour are following the Government's advice to stay at home to stop coronavirus spreading.

I'm grateful to still be working and able to offer the following virtual services:

  • Developing Style - our usual full day consultation broken down into three, two-hour sessions on a 1:1 basis. This is an eye-opening experience with results that last a lifetime.
  • Wardrobe review - we'll assess your wardrobe together and clear out what you don't need to help simplify your life and refresh your style.
  • Outfit building - a great way to utilise what you already have. We'll make a record of any new outfits and create a list of missing items as we go.
  • Online shopping - tell me what's missing from your existing wardrobe, or we can work it out together, and I'll shop to fill the gaps.
  • Like many others, I'm working from home until further notice and can fit around your current circumstances. Please, don't be shy! Tell me what you need help with, and I'll try my best to assist.

I'm Jan Beveridge and I'm a House of Colour Stylist because I love seeing the change I make in the lives of my clients. I love seeing the way their faces light up when they realise the difference colour can make, and they see, sometimes for the first time, just how lovely they really are!

    My Story.

My background is in retail. I was a buyer in Oxford Street. Oxford Street is all about up-to-date fashion, but I didn't do that: I wore business black and white, with sensible shoes, and I never wore make-up.

One day a friend booked into a Colour Analysis with House of Colour, and I went along simply to support her. What I saw in my friend was utterly unexpected; it was as if a spotlight was shining on her face and then off again as the colours changed. She looked fantastic in the black and white that I had been wearing. It turned out, however, that my best colours were different. Very different. And my consultant recommended - lipstick! I went home and cried.

But - at some point over the next few weeks, I fell in love with my colours. I could see the way they made me look softer and more approachable - more the person I felt I really was. And I was hooked. I completed the rest of the classes and never looked back.

I changed everything about the way I dressed and shortly afterwards landed a plum position with a prestigious household name - and I know the way I looked and presented myself was a big part of why I got that job.

My circumstances changed and I moved from London to Devon, and this was the chance to start a new life. Passing on what I had learned with House of Colour was the natural choice.

    How I work.

I will work with you individually or in a class with one other person. If you want to come in a friendship or family group of more, then that's fine too.

I create a relaxed safe space, where you can be sure of understanding and empathy as we explore colour and style at a deep level. This is not just about clothes; it's about the way your clothes make you feel. Much of our identity is bound up in the way we feel about the way we look, and it's often an area of vulnerability. I enable you to be comfortable with whatever comes up during the sessions.

    I always start with Colour:

Discovering the palette of colours that make you look glowing every day can be life-changing! Together we will find your "WOW" colours and you will learn how to put your colours together to make outfits which work every time. A quick and light make-up will complete your look and you will leave with all the knowledge you need to start creating a wardrobe of clothes in colours that all work in harmony with each other and with you. You will be amazed at the difference wearing the right colours can make: not just in enabling you to feel more confident but in changing the way people react around you.

    Prices: £155 weekdays, £180 Saturdays.

Once you know your colours, Personal Style is the next step.

After this class you will understand your body shape and proportions in a way that enables you to make powerful choices in the clothes you wear. You will learn the shapes that flatter and the ones to avoid. Even more importantly, you will learn how to choose the clothes that reflect your personality and which work in harmony with your lifestyle. Sooner than you think, you will have a wardrobe full of clothes you love and feel wonderful wearing; everything from party clothes to a favourite pair of jeans.

    Price: £210

    Make-up is the finishing touch.

I know how challenging make-up can be for some people; after all, it was for me! Together we will find the right look for you, so you can look finished and polished but not "made-up." This is a hands-on, very practical session and you will leave feeling confident that, with a little practise, you will be able to create your personal, very individual, look every time. We can explore different looks for different occasions and there is lots of time to experiment.

    Prices: £60 weekdays, £85 Saturdays.

I also provide Ongoing Support with accompanied shopping trips, wardrobe decluttering, advanced classes in accessorising, colour and personal style.

    My question to you is:

Are you ready to transform your life, your confidence and your wardrobe?

hi Jan.  Just a quick note to let you know that the compliments are coming in thick and fast, I am loving it.  I have removed all of the black and white from my wardrobe.  I have dyed most of the white a baby blue or a baby pink.  I had a disaster with green dye, so won't be trying that again!

I have had my hair taken back to its natural (almost) colour and am very happy with the result.  I didn't realise just how dark I was having it coloured. I was working in Liverpool a few weeks ago with a colleague that I have not seen for at least 18 months. On the 3rd day, over breakfast she said 'so what is it Sarah, have you had cosmetic surgery?  You look so good.  So confident.  You must have had something done!' I took it as a massive compliment and told her that what I had had done was not nearly as drastic as surgery and a damn sight more fun:).

Jan really changed my outlook on Colours for the better.I now wear colours with confidence that I wouldn't have dreamt of wearing before and feel really positive. I would hghly recommend everyone should have their colours done and the sooner done the sooner you save money buying clothes that just don't do anything for you! It isn't just a 'fashion thing' dressing with confidence can have such a positive influence on how you feel and how you are perceived both in yourwork and personal life. An absolute must in my view.

    A Mans' point of view.

Knowing which colours suit me, and which don't, has saved me a lot of wasted time/effort and money when shopping for clothes.

Recently a sales assistant told me how good it was to see a man buying brightly coloured clothes - so I'm not only better off I am brighter too!

Great to hear from a man. Thank you.

You won’t remember me after 3 or 4 years but I amused you by saying that I didn’t like shimmer eyeshadow because I don’t need twinkles on my wrinkles!!

I arrived for the workshop with Jan wearing fuchsia pink having worn this colour for years!  I remember being stunned by the contrast when a colour is right and when it is mediocre/awful but I also grew increasingly depressed as the colour spectrum showed that I am an Autumn.  Jan was so encouraging and positive in picking the colours from Autumn which are perfect for me.

I went home and dyed everything I could, kept the pink (just in case) and started buying my Autumn colours.  It wasn’t long before the charity shops were given a lot of pink and now when I open my wardrobe it is full of oranges, golds, turquoise  and greens which look super together and fantastic on me.  It was the best investment having my colours done and saves hours of times when shopping.  A great big thank you!  Leila from South Devon

“My husband was the first to get his colours done with Jan and he was so pleased that he arranged for me to see Jan as a birthday present.   It was a bit of a shock when I realised 80% of my wardrobe had to be ditched as my clothes were all the wrong colour, but the comments and compliments from friends more than made up for the loss of my wardrobe and I have never looked back. Wearing the right colours not only boosted my confidence bur has made shopping so much easier.  I can now write off 80% of clothes within 30 seconds of entering a shop -  thank you Jan!”

    Tim and Jane Barnes

I joined one of Jan Beveridge's House of Colour classes around 5 years ago and it has been one of the best investments I have ever made.

Jan is approachable, friendly, an excellent hostess and is enthusiastic and passionate about her work. I feel that my ability to choose the right colours that really suit me has improved no end and I am confidently wearing colours I would not have considered in the past. I have gained a lot of confidence since getting to know Jan and it continues to be an ongoing process. I know Jan is available to help and advise if I get into difficulties choosing the right outfit/colour combinations. I can recommend her highly.

    Valerie Horwich

I saw the self confidence and deep appreciation of my self grow and is almost unshakeable.

My Advanced Colour day was fabulous.  I now know which combinations of my winter colours work best for me.  I took a case full of my clothes.  They were not my favourite items but I chose them for their variety of colours.  Jan created me several new outfits by mixing my items up and creating the wow factor for me.  Not only that but I got to wear the best colour lipstick for each combination. I have been working in London this week and on day one I wore 2 of my reds together (I have never ever worn 2 different reds at the same time) and on day two I wore purple and pink together (another never ever before)!!!  I would have not have had the courage to wear these looks without Jan’s wonderful support and encouragement.  I look forward every day to putting my outfits together and experimenting using my new knowledge.

I recommend this day to anyone who has already had their colour day.

    Thank you Jan.

Jan was patient, very knowledgeable and provided an inspiring session in an empathatic, supportive manner.

She guided me through'my' colours and has given me the confidence I need when shopping.
