I've signed up to Second Hand September! This means I'm now now part of a group of people across the country, who’ve pledged to help people and the planet by saying no to new clothes for 30 days between now and the end of September. And, I'm going one step further than that!
Saturday 5th October from 10am until 1.00pm latest - Swishing Event!
Tickets are £10 - to include five Swishing vouchers and refreshments. Advanced booking is required.
Start sorting your clothes now and put any mistakes to one side. This is a great opportunity to review your summer wardrobe, which are the items you haven't worn? Is it time to say good bye and release them to a new home? It could also worth reviewing your Autumn/Winter options. What do you have that you know you'll no longer wear? You could swap it for something you'll love.
What is Swishing?
You bring the things in your wardrobe that are not quite your colour, not a good fit or not really your style. The items you look at but never wear! Good quality items that you would happily give to a friend. They could be clothing, shoes, scarves, hats or bags. You donate them and hopefully find other things to take home which make your heart sing.
How does it work?
You bring a minimum of five quality, clean items that you are ready to pass on. Scarves are welcome in addition to your minimum of five items. Please bring items on hangers if you can (you'll take things home on hangers). You can bring handbags and jewellery too, anything that's in good condition and that you no longer wear/use.
You'll receive one raffle ticket per item, for the first five items. This is your 'money'.
Enjoy a cup of tea or coffeeand slice of cake while we sort the donations. Garments will be sorted into warm and cool colours as well as into sizes. So, if you've had your colours done you'll know which things will work for you!
You can look at the garments and other donations during this time but no trying on yet!!
Try on time starts! If you'd like an item, you exchange one of your raffle tickets per item.
It's great fun, if two of you like the same item, decide who looks best in it?
Then there will be a free for all period when you can 'buy' what you want from what's left by purchasing extra raffle tickets at £1 each.
What happens if you donate an amazing item but do not find something you want?
This is about letting go and giving garments a chance to be loved. I cannot know whether you'll find something you love, I hope you do. If not, watch the fun and enjoy a chat!
Any left over items will be taken to Mercy in Action in Watlington and to Oxfam in Thame.
