Everyone deserves a wonderful wardrobe of clothes
Ever get mixed feelings when new collections arrive in the shops? Yes, it’s great to see fresh colours and styles, but it’s easy to think you’ve got to splash out on a whole new wardrobe just to keep up to date – and you’re not even sure that the latest looks work for you anyway.
Enter our 3-step wardrobe spring clean! It’ll remind you what makes you feel fantastic and help you to spot any gaps, whether it’s a jacket, skirt or particular colours. So when you next hit the high street, you’ll save time and money because you will know exactly what you need to buy.
Let’s get started…
1: give your wardrobe an audit
The first step is to take stock of what you have already. Get everything out and ask yourself three things:
Do I love it?
Does it fit me?
Does it still look fresh and fabulous?
If you say ‘no’ to any of these questions, it could be time to give that shirt or dress to a friend or charity shop. It’s a brilliant solution. Someone else gets pleasure from it and you get rid of your guilt, because it’s no longer lurking on a shelf, reminding you that you’ve not worn it for ages. The planet will also thank you because you’re keeping your clothes out of landfill for longer.
You might worry that a big sort-out means you end up with nothing to wear. It’s strange, but actually the reverse is true. Once you scale everything back to what suits you perfectly, you find you’ve more outfits than you ever imagined. Which brings us to step…
2: go shopping in your wardrobe
Once every item is right for your body shape and clothing personality, it means all your tops will go with all your skirts and trousers. And that means you can have fun experimenting with different combinations, to create fabulous new outfits. It’s like going on a shopping spree without opening your purse once!
And now you’ve pared things back, it’s easy to see whether any colours in your palette are missing from your clothes collection. Have a look at our Colour Trend Report to find which shades from your season are in the shops now. Just one item in a colour you don’t usually wear will make your whole wardrobe feel fresh.
