Deciding what to wear over the festive season without wasting money on lots of new items you’ll wear only once, can be a bit tricky. Here are some investment piece ideas to mix in with items you may already have in your wardrobe for great versatility and a low cost per wear.
If you have a sparkly or shimmery top from a previous season, why not try wearing it with some wide leg trousers and ankle boots to create a new silhouette. You may already have the wide leg trousers from last season but if you don't they'll make a great investment because you can wear them all year.
Pleated skirts are a key trend this season with lots of choice in shimmery fabrics that can be dressed up with a blouse in lace or satin for a smart evening look. Swap the blouse for some chunky knitwear and wear them with boots for a contemporary daytime look for a pub lunch or dinner in the evening.
A jumpsuit is a great alternative to a dress. If you choose one in a simple block colour it is easy to dress it up a bit for a night out by adding a sparkly belt, some jewellery and heels. Choose carefully and it could be worn again with a leather belt and a jacket for a wedding or other smart event in the spring. Pop some knitwear over the top and your jumpsuit will look like trousers!
If you are thinking about buying a dress, then make sure you consider when else you could wear it. The dress you wear with sparkly accessories on a night out could well be worn for a daytime event or with a jacket for work. As for the jumpsuit, just change the formality of the accessories.
If the dress code says “Christmas jumper,” the less “Christmassy” you make your choice, the more likely you will be able to wear it again. Exchange snowman and elf themes to one of sparkles and stars and you’ll be able to wear your jumper throughout the winter (you can always add some reindeer antlers or a Santa hat to up the Christmas theme!).
A great way to look more festive without over stuffing your wardrobe is to add a little shimmer and sparkle to your make up. With our new eyeshadow compacts you can have fun creating different looks as these compacts contain 4 different shades. The smaller shape also makes it ideal to carry in your bag so you can add some sparkle to your makeup to take you from day to night.
