Using a pyramid structure in your wardrobe… and why you need it.
Is there such a thing as a perfect structure for your wardrobe? Yes, there definitely is – and what’s more, you can achieve it yourself. This also means you can maximise the number of outfits you have in your wardrobe.
Imagine opening your wardrobe every morning and beaming with delight. No matter what you’re doing that day, the ideal outfit is at your fingertips. Sounds impossible? Honestly, it really isn’t. You just have to think of your wardrobe like a pyramid.
Here’s how to do it:
The base of the pyramid structure
The base of the pyramid forms the solid foundation of your wardrobe, so you should have more of these items than anything else. They’re the beautiful, high-quality investment pieces in neutral colours that go with everything – trousers, jacket, coat, boots, a watch or a handbag.
These items will last you for years, so it’s worth spending a bit more money on them. If in doubt, think of the cost per wear:
True cost of a garment = Price ÷ number of times worn
The middle layer
This is where you add more colour. It could be tops, jeans, skirts, dresses… Anything that expresses your personality by adding flair and panache.
The top of the pyramid
The vivid colours and general wardrobe zing are found at the top of the pyramid. There’s a higher turnover here, so you can be a bit more daring and have more fun – Tops, jewellery, scarves, on trend accessories… whatever takes your fancy.
The pyramid concept for structuring your wardrobe is the easiest way to create multiple outfits, clothes that work for every part of your lifestyle – from the school run to the posh evening do. But if your wardrobe is getting you down, or it’s a bit out of control, there’s nothing wrong with asking for help.
