How to become a personal stylist… Everything you need to know

Can you imagine it? Working for yourself in a career that suits you down to the ground, with the flexibility to plan your ideal working week. Oh, and earning decent money too. Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?
Actually, becoming a personal stylist gives you all that. But here’s the thing: you’re working for yourself. Yes, we know. It’s a scary thought.

OK, let’s leave the scariness to one side for the moment. Building a career as stylist is empowering and hugely satisfying.  It can make money and give you more confidence than you ever thought possible. It’s also flexible enough to fit around your lifestyle and your family commitments.
Obvious plus points. So are you ready to make that leap into the unknown?

Yes… but I’ve never run my own business. Where do I start?

Don’t worry, it doesn’t matter if you’re a complete novice at running your own business.  Some of our most successful stylists started out exactly where you are now. And they couldn’t imagine it either. If you don’t believe us, have a look at Judi’s story.

Our training course gives you easy-to-follow business training from day one. We’ll cover everything you need to know about setting up as a franchisee with House of Colour. And we really do mean absolutely everything – setting realistic goals, how to design your perfect working week, how to get your first client, how to organise your office.

Your training is structured so that after your first two weeks, you can start earning money. Not only that, you’ll also have that spark of confidence to know you can succeed in the long-term.

Will I really have enough training to make this succeed?

Yes, we’ll make sure of it. You won’t be left high and dry after your training. You’ll receive constant support, advice and a wealth of useful information all the way along the line. Additional training sessions, free webinars on a regular basis – marketing, social media, time and energy management - everything you need, including the stuff that’s a bit, well… dull. Like admin.

We don’t want to boast or anything (OK, indulge us for a minute), but House of Colour have won the Investors in People Gold Standard Award for the last four years because of the way we  train and support our personal stylists.
We treat you as an individual, helping you to learn in a way that suits you, plugging the knowledge gaps and playing to your strengths. (We’re done with the boasting now, honest.)

That’s all very well, but I’ll be working completely on my own

One of the most daunting things about starting a business, and maybe working from home, is that feeling of isolation. In an office, you take it for granted that colleagues give you support. And if you’re having a rubbish day, there’s always a friendly face nearby to cheer you up.

With House of Colour, you get the same support and friendly faces. The business is all yours but you’re also part of a team, with a whole network of regional managers to give practical and emotional help whenever you need it.
We’re aware that you’re about to climb a steep learning curve. We’ve all been there. When you get stuck, make a mistake or have a wobble, there’s always someone at the end of the phone to help you out.

Will I earn enough to pay the bills?

How often you work, and therefore how much you earn is entirely up to you. If you’re prepared to put the work in, the financial rewards can be substantial.

Don’t forget, although the business is your own, you’ll be working under the umbrella of House of Colour – an established brand with an international reputation. Unlike other businesses just starting out, you won’t have to worry about forming a brand identity. It’s already there.

And your business will grow. Around 90% of our stylists’ business comes from personal referrals. It’s not surprising - you’ve probably been there yourself. It’s transformational, isn’t it. Other people will see your clients looking fantastic and think, `I want some of that’.

In short, you’ll be doing one of the most fulfilling jobs in the world, moulding your career around your lifestyle, earning good money and most importantly, gaining a sense of confidence that’s life-changing. Oh, and you’ll have a business to sell when you want to retire.

What do I do next?

Just get in touch. We’ll send you a training pack with all the details of our 3-stage training course.
