Your Ultimate Style Guide To Embracing Lime Green This Season

Lime burst, cyber lime, acid green – whatever you want to call it, we identified in our Spring/Summer 2024 Seasonal Style Guide that this is the season to brave bright green and make the citrus shade work for you. Of course, Summer is the perfect time to squeeze some lime into your look, if not now, when?! Kermit (yes, the Frog) once sang “It’s not easy being green” but with the release of the Wicked movie later this year and singer Chappell Roan’s recent appearance at the Gov Ball, it’s more on trend than ever to step out head-to-toe in the vibrant shade.

Wearing lime feels optimistic and bold – more playful than emerald and more intense than apple green, the gender-inclusive colour was seen on the SS24 runways of big hitters including Gucci, Versace and Bottega Veneta. The thing about lime is, that it works well across every category: a flowing summer dress, eye-catching swimwear or even a pair of statement earrings; not to mention it also lends itself perfectly to checks, stripes or abstract prints. As the season progresses into Autumn, Trend Forecasters over at WGSN expect lime to evolve into a shade they’re calling ‘Cool Matcha’, for a more subtle take on the colour trend for the winter months. So, how can you make lime work for you? We’re breaking down how to make shades of citron work in your wardrobe this summer:

On Holiday

Let’s start with the obvious – lime looks great on holiday. Why? You’re sun-kissed, removed from your usual grey surroundings, the world feels more colourful and you should too! Throw on an embellished green dress or tank (as seen at Gucci) or a show-stopping swimsuit by Melissa Odabash – pair it with stacks of gold jewellery, not only will this compliment the green, but it looks great with your holiday glow. For a more subdued look, try a tailored look in the form of a linen waistcoat and shorts in a diluted lime hue, or play it safe and go for a bright mani in a can’t-wear-this-to-work shade of green.

At Work

Miu Miu taught us a lesson in bold workwear when they sent a parakeet green two-piece down the runway – paired with ribbed tights and T-bar Mary Janes. Introducing an acid bright into your workwear wardrobe may seem daunting (especially if you work in an office environment), however, lime becomes easier to wear when toned down with a palette of neutrals, brown or charcoal. Style an acidic green top or a silk shirt paired with a boxy blazer and tailored wide-leg trousers, or take inspiration from Emilia Wickstead and go for a lime shift dress – a classic trench thrown over the top will make it infinitely wearable.

At The Weekend

You can afford to be more playful with your weekend looks, so don’t hold back! Actress Alia Bhatt recently nailed the look in a neon green Lurex polo shirt, worn with flared denim and shiny black accessories as she attended the Gucci SS24 show. Activewear is another easy gateway into green – a lime panel on your leggings or a pair of zesty running trainers will keep you on trend without distracting at the gym. Adding a pop of lime to your look via a knit slung casually around your shoulders is another understated style detail that can elevate your outfit and shouldn’t be overlooked.

At The Event

If you need a standout dress for your next event, just look to this season’s runways for high(lighter) fashion inspiration – David Koma went citrus and sheer, Tony Ward showed us how to make lime work for a black-tie event (note: asymmetric and form-fitting), while Versace covered party dressing with sequin minis in cute, retro shapes. If head-to-toe green sounds excessive, opt for a classic black dress paired with bright, strappy sandals or a statement clutch. Easy peasy, lime squeezy.
