Spring Revival: 5 Pieces to Wear Again Now
Posted by: House of Colour, March 19, 2025
We love it when a new season rolls around and we can sift through the runway archives and note the main trends seen at Fashion Week. Like all things, trends come back around (quicker than you think!), and the best ones allow us to re-wear something we already own, albeit styled in an updated way. For spring, whether you love dressing up in feminine frills, keeping it preppy or feeling office-ready, there truly is something for everyone. Below, we’ve outlined 5 key pieces we’ll be digging out, ready to re-wear this spring.
Rugby Shirts
Rugby shirts were big news back in the early 00s and have been a steadily growing trend since Hailey Bieber and Rhianna wore the same striped Loewe rugby shirt back in spring 2023. Backed by Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton, the sporty trend is set to reach its peak in SS25, with rugby tops and polo shirts hitting the mainstream.
How to wear this spring:
Apart from comfort, the great thing about these tops is their versatility: Lean into girly preppiness by styling your polo with a simple A-line miniskirt, loafers and glasses, or play up the athletic aesthetic by pairing a polo with leggings, trainers and a headband. Don’t own a rugby shirt? Any collared top or knit will give you a similar look. Worth a ‘try’, right?
Boho Skirts
Cast your mind back to 2004: denim shorts were miniscule, waist belts were inexplicably wide and Kate Moss and Sienna Miller were rarely seen without a fringed waistcoat. This is how boho looked over 20 years ago, and the trend is back for 2025, with Chloé, Isabel Marant and Saint Laurent acting as the driving force behind the resurgence.
How to wear this spring:
With brown leather and Western styling rising in popularity over the past few seasons, it’s no surprise that boho is officially back for spring/summer ‘25. Opt for loose, flowing skirts in feminine floral prints or earthy neutrals. Pair long skirts with cowboy or ankle boots, ruffled blouses and brown suede or leather jackets. There’s a reason this much-loved trend comes around so often.
Ties
Masculine tailoring is back. Think 80s, oversized, boxy fits and this season’s key item: the necktie. Call it a backlash to the post-COVID work-from-home world we’ve been navigating for the past five years, but dressing for the office (whether you go there or not) has never been cooler.
How to wear this spring:
Channel Julia Roberts at the 1990 Golden Globes with a men’s oversized suit and jazzy tie combo (we loved Ayo Edebiri’s homage to Julia at this year’s Globes), or go for a sleeker look as seen at Saint Laurent. Borrow masculine tailoring from the men in your life, or have a rummage in vintage shops for bargain blazers and unusual neckties. And if a tie feels a bit too Severance, knot a colourful silk scarf around your neck instead.
Everything Sheer
Sheer dressing doesn’t have to be risqué, and this season’s sheers are a nod to romance and whimsy rather than relying on a nearly nude shock factor. When it comes to fabrics, think tulle and organza wrapped or draped around the body, either to create fluid movement or a sleek silhouette. On the runway, Michael Kors showed us how to pair a sheer skirt with tailoring, while Ralph Lauren brought elegance to the trend with an all-white ensemble.
How to wear this spring:
Wear your sheer skirts and dresses with a sleek and sharp blazer for a cool juxtaposition between masculine and feminine. Sheer tops with ruched fabric or asymmetric details make the perfect night-out look worn with jeans or a slinky skirt. Powdery pastel colours in sugary shades work well for this time of year and add a romantic feel. Wear a simple bralette underneath or try a cami for more coverage.
Nautical Stripes
All great trends come back around, and who doesn’t own something striped? While some may argue that stripes never go out of style, their nautical connotations certainly do. However, this season celebrates the sea and everything that goes with it. Moschino went literal with models sporting sailor hats, while Prada, Proenza and Paco Rabanne all used classic navy and white stripes in their collections.
How to wear this spring:
Dig out your favourite Breton top and elevate it – add embellishment or statement jewellery as seen at Rabanne, or throw on a striped knit or blazer with a white skirt or tailored trousers. Hate stripes? Play with the colour combination of navy, white and red, or look for textured fabrics reminiscent of netting, mesh, rope or tassels for a nautical nod.
