Zest
for Life by Dawn Breslin
What is it? This is a self help book, written in
a clear, down to earth style. It encourages you to do
exercises such as writing a journal, visualising, meditating,
and directed thinking. The text is attractively set out
with plenty of illustrations, which makes for easy reading.
There is nothing heavy or hard going about this book.
Why read it? Particularly good if you have had
a life changing experience (for example divorce, bereavement,
redundancy) which has knocked your self esteem. Also good
if you are feeling in a rut or dissatisfied with your
life as it is.
Why does House of Colour recommend it? We often
have clients who are re-examining their lives/looking
to move on. This book will help them. |

Mirror
Mirror by Dr Linda Papadopoulos
What is it? Written intelligently but in accessible
language, this book examines how we develop a (usually
negative) personal body image, how we are influenced by
myths about beauty and importantly - how we can change
our mindset. It includes exercises and tasks to help you
make your body image work for you.
Why read it? If you have failed to succeed with
diets, if you are convinced that your body and/or face
stop you from succeeding in relationships or work, this
book is for you
Why does House of Colour recommend it? Consultants
can see what is beautiful in every client – it is often
much harder to convince the client him/herself! That is
what this book will do. |

Elegance
by Kathleen Tessaro
What is it? This funny novel is both a great read
and an education in the power of self-transformation.
As Louise, charming but, ‘a Bermuda Triangle of Bad Hair
day meets Bad Dress day, meets Hippie Shoes from Hell.’
changes her look, she changes her life in unexpected ways.
Why read it? Better written then many, this romantic
comedy is hugely enjoyable. It will also persuade even
the most cynical reader about the connection between looking
good and your self esteem.
Why does House of Colour recommend it? It’s all
the things we teach attached to a great story! |

Armadillo
by William Boyd
What is it? A cleverly plotted, dark comedy of
a crime novel. Lorimer Black is an insurance loss adjuster
who goes to a meeting and finds a hanged man. His life
is never the same again and as he investigates the mystery
he is guided by his mentor Ivor.
Why read it? Fast paced, funny and exciting this
is a good book for men, particularly for those unconvinced
about the importance of appearance. Lorimer dresses differently
for each person he interviews to ensure that he gets the
information that he wants out of them.
NB Women will enjoy it as well!
Why does House of Colour recommend it? Men love
HOC when they get there – it is getting them there that
is sometimes tricky! This novel has convincing arguments
about personal presentation as well as being a good read. |
