and more about me!
From being a young teenager to my late twenties I lacked confidence in myself and, although I loved clothes and fashion, I never seemed to be on trend or, if I was, I looked wrong!
I never had anything to wear and always had to scrabble about at the last minute to find something for an important occasion. My wardrobe often held things that stayed unworn until the day they went off to the charity shop!
Things changed when I found out about House of Colour. I went along to a ‘freebie’ introductory evening and a whole new world opened up to me.
That evening was a revelation and I signed up for a colour class immediately, even though as a working mother of two small children, with a huge mortgage and nursery fees to pay I could ill afford to.
I'd had that 'there must be more too life than this' feeling for sometime beforehand. I needed to work, I worked extremely hard but didn't seem to get anywhere, I loved my kids but life seemed all work and little play.
I wanted to move forward and get on. I wanted to be seen as someone with their own identity, who could contribute to business life in a more senior role, rather than as a working mum who did although a hard worker who good job was not fully committed - I was committed but felt as if I couldn't get anyone to see it.
The class was a revelation, it covered so much more than just what colours to wear, we discussed the reasons why wearing make up and appropriate clothing for the work place was necessary. We talked about how it made each of us feel when we were out and about feeling quite good about ourselves and the way we looked until someone said ‘how are you? Or ‘are you feeling ok?’ ('Don't you find that if you are asked that more than twice in a day you start to wonder if you really are alright?' We discussed why people ask these questions. The class was fun as well and I was amazed (and pleased) to find that the others in the class had just the same hang ups as me.
I quickly came to realise that by not wearing make up and dressing too casually at work I had been sabotaging my effort to be taken seriously as management material.
Although I couldn't afford to commit to further classes then, I left with enough information and the confidence to make some small but noticeable changes to my appearance.
Very quickly things changed for me, I had more confidence, became more assertive at work, promotion and other career development opportunities soon followed.
I also got many, many compliments from colleagues, male and female (and I still do) even on those days when I had been up half of the night with one of the kids and actually felt dreadful, all because the colours I was wearing lit me up and made me look radiant.
Once I could afford it I progressed to the Image class and finally got to grips with understanding my body shape and clothing personality, more revelations.
You can’t believe how wonderful it is to realise that the reason the frock, that looked so good on my best friend or that I had lusted after in the shop, looked dreadful on me (despite it being in my best colour) was absolutely nothing to do with my height or weight. Understanding my body shape and clothing personality means that I always confident in the clothes I have on (even at 6am and walking the dog in the dark!).
I no longer have unworn clothes in my wardrobe, everything but the most ‘special’ occasion clothes get worn frequently and shopping is a whole lot easier as I know exactly what works for me.
It really is easy to make a huge difference to your life, take the first steps on your House of Colour Journey and call or email me to book your first class now. I am confident that you will never regret it.
